The Dale and Louise Swanson Scholarship was created to help area youth continue their education. As a lifelong educator, Louise understands the value of an education. “I believe that NIACC is an excellent organization providing education and cultural opportunities to the citizens of North Iowa,” she said.
A native of Northwood, Dale served in the United States Navy. Following his service he attended Luther College and graduated from Iowa State University. He taught veterans on the Farm Training programs. Dale passed away in 2000.
Louise (Miles) Swanson also attended Luther College and went on to graduate from Iowa State Teachers College (now known as the University of Northern Iowa) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. She furthered her education by obtaining a Master of Science Degree in Education from Iowa State University. She dedicated 30 years of service to the Mason City Public School system.
Both of Dale’s and Louise’s daughters, Janet and Eileen, are NIACC graduates. The late Janet Dean graduated from NIACC in 1997 and Eileen Mediger acquired her degree in 1979.
“It is my hope that this annual scholarship award will make a difference in the life of a deserving student,” said Louise.
