Delphine Suter's nursing career lasted twenty-three years and spanned five decades.  During that time, she cared for countless infants in the nursery at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital as lovingly as if they were her own.  At age 84 she died of cancer.

To honor her devotion to nursing, Delphine's five children-Anne, Jim, Mary, Catherine and Kevin-created the Delphine Suter Memorial Scholarship Fund.  The scholarship is designated for a nursing student who shows financial need with preference for a female basketball player.

A lifelong resident of Mason City, Delphine graduated from St. Joseph's Mercy School of Nursing in 1938.  She worked at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital as a Registered Nurse in the nursery until 1940.  After raising five babies of her own, Delphine returned to the nursery at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in 1957 and continued to work there until her retirement in 1978.

The Delphine Suter Memorial Scholarship will continue Delphine's legacy of caring and service to others by inspiring the nursing students of the future.
