This fund was established to recognize John’s commitment to education and the accounting profession. The scholarship is designated for a second year accounting student.
John graduated from high school in Marshfield, Wisconsin. He then attended Lawrence College and graduated from the University of Iowa, becoming a certified public accountant.
John was a member of the NIACC Board of Directors from 1970-86, serving as Board President for much of that time. John also was a member and past-president of the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees. He was a member and ruling elder of the First Presbyterian Church, member and president of the Public Health Nursing Association, director of the Mason City Chamber of Commerce, member of the Mason City Board of Adjustment and many other civic organizations.
“John’s wishes were to have an endowed scholarship,” Mary said. “NIACC was important to John. The work he did for NIACC he did joyfully.”
